Meet: The Academic

Hiya everyone! Hope you're all okay and Monday hasn't been too tough for ya.
Recently I managed to have a little chin wag with the super cool lads of The Adademic. Here's what they had to say...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. The Adademic! Hiya lads, how are you?
We are all great thanks

2. Please, take some time to introduce yourselves to the readers!
We , are Craig , Matt , Stephen and Dean. We are from outside a small town in Ireland called Mullingar.  Matt and Stephen are brothers.

3. Now then down to business, your debut single 'Different' (which is absolutely SICK by the way, congratulations. I love it..) is out on the24th April in Ireland, and the 27th of April it will be available for everyone worldwide. So on that subject lads, tell me, what makes you 'different' from other bands in the industry right now?
Thanks , glad you like it.  That’s a really hard question to answer, we don’t really look at other bands and compare ourselves or think of what makes us different. We just do our own thing and hope that people like it.

4. I love that, good answer! So 'Different' was recently played by the legend that is Annie Mac, on Radio 1! Mental! How did you feel that happened?!
Radio support has been amazing and the fact that people like Annie have played our music is great. We have been fans of Annie’s a long time so pretty cool when we heard her spinning our music. We are not exactly sure how it got to her. We have been picking up a lot of radio support in Ireland, Rigsy at BBC Introducing In Northern Ireland had given the track its first play, so maybe it got passed on, you never know with these things.

5. Oh incredible, that's amazing to hear! What inspired you to write 'Different'?
All our music is based on what goes on in our everyday lives, things that have happened in the past, things that are going on right now. Different is a song that was written about 2 people who we know who were completely Different to each other but somehow they just worked together.

6. Each of you, name your favourite throw back track! Something that never gets old no matter how many times you hear it...

Craig: This boy by The Beatles or These arms of mine by Otis Redding!
Matt: Wouldn't it be nice by The Beach Boys! It's a perfect pop recording, so many layers of complexity and an amazing vocal performance.
Stephen: Superstar by The Carpenters or anything by Prince!
Dean: Nirvana - You know you're right. It was the last song recorded by Cobain before he died. One of their lesser known songs but one of their best for me!

7. Oh Dean! Gotta side with you on that one. One of my absolute faves, such an under rated track. So, how do you rate the music scene where you live? Would you say you use it to inspire your music?
There's a very healthy music scene in Mullingar, the town we're from. I think where you live and where you have come from will always inspire the music you write.

8. What music were you surrounded by growing up? Do you think those tunes have influenced the way you play as a band?
They definitely have influenced us! We grew up on our parents music so there was always a lot of Bruce Springsteen and U2 being played around the house, and of course The Beatles!

9. Describe 'The Academic' in 4 words...
Energetic, youthful, hooks and High 5’s

10. Hooks and High 5's.. surely that's a potential name for a future album! Finally, is there anything you could tell us about your up & coming singles, tours, etc? Or is that all top secret? Please tell me your coming to London soon?! Surely you are...

The single, as you said, is out on the 24th April in Ireland, and on the 27th of April it will be available for everyone worldwide. We will be out on the festival circuit quite a bit this summer , right now we are in the middle of our first headline tour in Ireland , then we head for Live at Leeds, Live At Glasgow and The Great Escape over the next few weeks! And yes, we will be in London for Bushstock Festival in June. Hopefully we'll see you there!

Well, If you listen closely, you might hear the sound of me purchasing tickets to Bushstock.. Been so cool to chat lads. Hopefully see you in June! Thank you!
